over here, in the states, it IS a bit odd that manufacturers make distinctions between "makes" and "models" even if they are the same car in different countries. but the reason is this: you're looking at it from the "Consumer" point of view - looking at it from the manufacturer's or "Bussiness" perspective: it's a very wise decision. although nissan and infiniti are essentially the same company, the distinction between the two (from the non-enthusiast's eye) is that when they here "infiniti" or "lexus" as opposed to "nissan" or "toyota", they think - "higher end," "top of the line," "better" than their counterparts. it's all just a marketing technique that i guess establishes what alot (not all), but alot of consumers in the states are looking for: social status. i.e. it's like why tommy hilfiger (who does not know how to drive stick) bought a freakin' Ferrari Enzo.
anyways, about your daily driver: first, i think, what you should establish is - what do you want out of your daily driver? like other's have suggested, the skyline: more than two-seats+luggage, but as you said they're "common"; now the NSX-R: "rare", they look exotic (although some would argue they're sexiness). ...like, what are your "expectations" or "standards" for a daily driver? if it were me: they skyline, simply because it has the extra seats and more space and not to mention comfort ammenities. i like the nsx-r, but to me it seems a bit impractical for daily driving purposes - 2 seats, little space, and the "R" takes aways some luxuries. love BOTH cars though, but they're both different types of beasts (in their own right). i would say: choose the one that suits YOU best.
